I find the Exterior Design far more compelling and rewarding than the Interior. After all, it’s what makes people stop in their tracks and want to see what’s inside!
Exterior Design takes finesse and skill. Anyone can throw up an inspiration picture of the interior, pick out light fixtures, hardware, and decent vanities and tile and call it a day. Not everyone has the ability to design an exterior. When my husband and I first walked through this home, we knew we were going to buy it! The interior is so charming and well taken care of. The issue? The exterior would take some serious imagination. Take a look at the house in its current condition below.
You would never think that the inside of this home is easily one of the most charming and has the most potential out of any of the flip properties I’ve ever stepped foot in. The best part? It has an original scalloped copper range that made my little designer heart beat faster. We will be incorporating the original copper range hood in the new kitchen and will center the design elements of this home around the statement piece. When I sat down at my computer to create the design for the exterior I started with a light blue gray because I’ve been so inspired by that color scheme lately. This home quickly told me that it wasn’t a fit. I just so happened to open my instagram up and I saw this photo by James T. Farmer and I said, that’s it. The copper lanterns with the soft green and the roof color which is strikingly similar to this home’s.
I was so inspired by this color palate, but wanted a “softer” green for this home so I went with a sage green. I found beautiful copper electric lanterns for the front and it was over. I decided to keep the traditional “cottage” feel of the exterior to pack as much character and curb appeal possible into this little South Tampa gem. As you can see in the “before” picture, the bulky landscaping makes this home feel short and squatty (which to be fair, it is). We’re planning to rip it all out and add in shorter and more ground cover to scale the aesthetic of the home.
If you caught my tiny hints about what this house is…… We are starting on our new South Tampa flip house in December and I can’t wait to share this project with you. It’s choc full of incredible design elements. If you’re looking for Exterior Design, email me. I’d be happy to help!
