“I don’t follow any rules when it comes to design. If you love something, trust that instinct. Don’t worry about where it will go- that’s the beauty of a collection of pieces that evoke feeling.”
When Alton & I embarked on this journey to invest in Real Estate, we agreed it would allow us both to achieve separate personal goals, together. My goal has always been to design full time and what better way to learn more & gain exposure than to flip a house? It hasn’t been an easy journey, but I have learned so much about functional design by a creating floor to ceiling for this house.
Through sharing on instagram & bringing all of you along the journey, I started to get a lot of design questions & inquiries. I thought to myself… If not now then when? There will always be someone who is “better” & more qualified than I, but why let that stop me? I often fall into the imposter syndrome rabbit hole of thinking I am not equipped or capable to achieve my goals. When I get into that thought spiral I think of a quote I heard on a podcast featuring Kathleen Barnes:
The woods would be silent if the only birds who sung, were the ones who sung best”

It reminds me that I am uniquely talented and no one else can offer what I have because they aren’t me. Before this gets into a weird self help post I’ll get off my soap box, but I want to share with you all the journey that brought me to this launch.
I believe that your space has the power to change your mood for the better. When you surround your home with pieces that you have intentionally collected it develops character. Imagine you walk through your front door & you are greeted by a vase filled with your favorite flowers atop a stack of books that house inspiration for your garden that you planted. You walk further and there is your mom’s heirloom silver that reminds you of her tough, but kind spirit. That feeling of joy & pride for your home is why I am launching Salem Brieske Designs. I want to give everyone that feeling, no matter their budget.
